MiraCosta’s English Language Institute (ELI) offers international students the opportunity to increase their English language proficiency and develop the skills needed for success in a U.S. college or university. The intensive English as a Second Language Program provides language immersion, and individualized instruction in small classes (average 12 students). Dedicated professional faculty and state-of-the-art computer software make learning experiences more effective. The program is designed for students with a minimum of one year English language training at the high school or college level. ELI offers two levels: Advanced Beginner and Intermediate. ELI students attend class 20 hours per week. There are five sessions per year and each session is eight weeks long. Students may attend multiple sessions. All classes are held on the MiraCosta College Oceanside Campus. The program may not be appropriate for advanced ESL students or students with a TOEFL score greater than 500. |

MiraCosta has a full-service international student office with advisers to help with all immigration documents and cultural adjustment. They also help students plan their classes and education to ensure successful transfer into MiraCosta credit classes or other California colleges and universities. ELI students have access to the library, computer labs and health center. Students are also welcome to join MiraCosta clubs and organizations. Off-campus housing is available through local Home-Stay Services companies. Students reside with a carefully-screened local family and learn more about American culture while improving spoken English skills. |

A notarized, current bank statement verifying that the student has a minimum of $8,170 U.S. Dollars in a cash account available for his or her use. If the bank account is not in the student's name, then a notarized letter of support should accompany the notarized bank statement from the holder of the account. Most consulates around the world require the applicant to prove that he or she is able to pay for his or her entire program of study.
