Three Easy Steps

Step 1: GEMS Initial Review

Carefully review the available university programs and select the school(s) you wish to apply to. Complete the online pre-application form and submit it to GEMS.

After we review your pre-application, GEMS will assist you with completing the university’s application if you are an eligible candidate.

Step 2: University Application

GEMS will verify that you meet the minimum eligibility requirements as part of the GEMS Initial Review.

Next, you will be provided information about completing the application process for the program(s) for which you are eligible. This includes providing the necessary application and supporting documents (i.e. official transcript in English, financial statement and TOEFL score* if available) in person, email, fax or mail.

Step 3: Acceptance

We will review your complete application including the required supporting documentation and forward it to your selected program. Within approximately three weeks the university will contact you with an admission decision (conditional or unconditional).

GEMS cannot guarantee acceptance at the university you have applied, however we will assist you, should you be denied, with an additional application at another university for which you are eligible to apply.

Who can apply

To qualify for short-term Global Study Abroad through GEMS, you must meet certain minimum requirements. You must:

• have completed your first year of study at your home university,
  
• be a non-American citizen with principal residence outside the USA,
  
• have a statement of finances indicating adequate funds to support either a semester or a full year of academic study as well as personal expenses,
  
• have spoken and written English sufficient for university study,
  
• have a letter of recommendation from your home university.
  

When to apply

We recommend you apply as early as possible in the academic year because of the visa application process.

Submit your application prior to 1 July (for Fall or yearlong admission) or 1 November (for Spring admission) to have the best chance for successful enrollment at your first university choice.

However, you may apply at any time of year.
